The Golden West Winds is the resident woodwind quintet of the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West. Details:  The UCSB Corwin Chair Series and CREATE present Kirsten Reese, Berlin-based composer and sound artist, in a lecture, Lotussound and other installations and media compositions. From March 17-20, Reese will install over sixty small loudspeakers throughout the spectacular gardens of Lotusland. Her work, experimental music for electronics and instruments, audiovisual installations, and performative works with electronic media, has been presented at international festivals and exhibitions. She is currently a 2009 Fellow at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles.

Details:  Saturday, March 27th, 2010, 1:00-3:00pm, FREE! Chase Palm Park Pavilion, 323 E. Cabrillo Blvd. “Join in the Rhythm” for the 2nd annual Santa Barbara Drum Day! Drum Day is a 2-hour interactive drumming experience featuring Santa Barbara-based Dancing Drum, special guest percussionists, and the community of Santa Barbara. This is an all ages, all abilities, all levels of drumming experience event that gets the entire audience involved in playing drums for 2 hours. Everyone is welcome and no previous drumming experience is necessary to participate. Dancing Drum’s Steve Campbell and Lindsay Rust (http://www.dancingdrum.com) will facilitate this year’s drumming festivities, with special guests taking the lead at turns. Last year’s inaugural Drum Day engaged 300 people in drumming together, a success that organizers hope to expand upon this year. Drums and percussion instruments will be provided by event sponsor REMO. Attendees who have their own drums are encouraged to bring them and add to the drumming fun. Drum Day participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a variety of percussion related prizes. Proceeds will benefit Dancing Drum’s project to bring music education programs to Langston Hughes Charter School in New Orleans’ Recovery School District. The second annual Santa Barbara Drum Day is a free event is sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, the Children’s Creative Project, REMO, and Dancing Drum.
